IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

STUDENT QUOTES FROM OUR SEPTEMBER OPEN DAY q&a PANEL

ANTON AMALFI - “it has been the best decision i could have made for my career development”

“After finishing school and gaining experience in industries such as construction and recruitment, I soon realised I wanted to redirect my focus towards a career in sport which has always been my passion and dream. In 2024 I made the move from Sydney to join the EEA and it has been the best decision I could have made for my career development.

This year, I’ve been fortunate to gain incredible placement opportunities across multiple departments at the club, with the bulk of my placements coming within the Community team. These experiences have been amazing opportunities in gaining insights to see what it takes to run an elite sports team both on and off the field. Each placement I’ve undertaken has strengthened my confidence and skills to pursue a career in elite sport. I’m truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve gained through the EEA.”

evie swan - “turn something that might feel like a requirement into an opportunity that’s meaningful, exciting and relevant to your interests”

“Maddy (EEA Student Experience Coordinator) does an incredible job organising placements and provides amazing support. She doesn’t just send you somewhere and hope it works out — she listens to what you want to get from your placement and helps make it happen. All you need to do is ask. Earlier this year, Maddy asked me and another student if we wanted to do an ongoing placement helping run the EFC VFLW Team social media, which is an area we had both said we wanted to do something within. That opportunity gave us real hands-on experience, helped us build skills we were interested in, networking within the club and opened doors we didn’t even know were there.

That’s what placements with Maddy’s support can do — they can turn something that might feel like just a requirement into an opportunity that’s meaningful, exciting, and relevant to your interests. So my advice is: speak up about what you’re curious about. Maddy will listen, and she’ll help make it happen.”

Blake Hoad - “the connections I’ve made with classmates, teachers and the eea staff has really helped me settle in, despite the initial anxiety”

“Having a smaller class made my experience feel much more personal. The connections I’ve made with classmates, teachers and the EEA staff has really helped me settle in, despite the initial anxiety of joining mid-year.

This program has offered me the unique opportunity to utilise staff and club members as key resources to progress my career, rather than learn just from textbooks and independent studies.

I sat there during my own open day loving the thought of being one of those passionate students standing there breaking down their experiences. When the latest one was announced, I reached out to express my interest and was immediately assisted in achieving my goals. THAT type of support has been truly invaluable.”
